For most of my life, and career... the sound of America that I heard amplified in
media was hollow. So many voices were missing. It didn't sound like the
neighborhood where I grew up. Didn't sound like my mother or my grandmother,
or the people I was meeting, not only in my community, but all over the world.
That is starting to change, but that change must be deliberate. It must center the right people. Black people can tell our own stories. BLACK PEOPLE TELL OUR OWN STORIES. BLACK PEOPLE HAVE ALWAYS TOLD OUR OWN STORIES
